Manila has been on our wishlist for a few years now for an unusual reason. Each year there is an international fireworks competition held in Manila Bay and we have been invited by a friend who is personally involved in this industry. It was also the week that the world’s first Dengue vaccine was launched here in the Philippines and we had another big birthday celebration. All in all, a lot to celebrate and a wonderful place to do it!

Down by the coast and ready to set off for the volcano
The narrow boats were counterbalanced by these!
From the top of the volcano looking down into the lake
Smoke spirals from parts of the volcano down by the water’s edge, but also up the sides of the volcano wall
After a long trip back down the volcano on horseback, we were glad to have God’s blessing to get us safely back to shore!
A beautiful evening awaited us
An interesting accessory on this motorbike!
On the way home, we stopped at this night market for Jack fruit
Elegant old style transport in Intra Muros, the old walled city
Grafitti on bamboo
A stunning sunset before the fireworks’ displays
Let the celebrations begin!
Our friend’s family opened up the festivities as hosts to the competition – spot the crescent moon!
The grand finale and a spectacular end to our trip to Manila!
